Mr. Ushe from the Gomba Cluster in Ward 13, Gutu District, is recognized not only for his hard work but also for his innovative spirit. Deeply committed to sustainability and community welfare, he actively seeks ways to enhance productivity while supporting his fellow farmers. He emphasized how chickens could transform farmers’ lives, providing fresh eggs, meat, and chicken droppings as organic manure for home gardens.
Recently, Mr. Ushe made a significant investment in a solar-powered egg incubator with a capacity of 430 eggs to strengthen his poultry project. This incubator will enable him to hatch his own eggs and provide hatching services to other farmers, creating an additional income stream. His enthusiasm exemplifies the project’s potential for sustainability.
The incubator has become an essential resource for the community, particularly as many farmers anticipate receiving point-of-lay chickens from the Tsungai project. They are applying the knowledge gained during poultry housing and management training to upgrade their fowl runs or constructing new ones, while implementing biosecurity measures at their homesteads across the 10 wards where Tsungai its active.

Through the poultry trainings provided by Tsungai, Mr Ushe is learning how to create the ideal environment for hatching chicks. In addition to the chickens he will receive from the project, he looks forward to procuring a variety of chicken breeds that will thrive in his area, some for-egg production and others for meat. This approach aims to create a balanced system that enhances income for both his household and the broader community’s socio-economic ecosystem.
